Hohentwiel Landscape Conservation Area
The Hohentwiel Landscape Conservation Area preserves the distinctive landscape surrounding Singen’s local mountain. It complements the nature reserve and the protected forest, combining stunning natural scenery, volcanic landscapes and sweeping views.
Around the Hohentwiel, extraordinary natural beauty, striking scenery and centuries-old history come together. The Hohentwiel Landscape Conservation Area complements the specially protected areas of the nature reserve and the protected forest and, according to the city of Singen, serves in particular to safeguard them. The landscape around the Hohentwiel is characterised by the former volcanic mountain with its steep slopes and a diverse cultural landscape. In particular, dry and warm habitats featuring nutrient-poor and dry grasslands, as well as heat-loving fringe areas, are characteristic of the area and of great ecological value. At the same time, the elevated position offers impressive views over Singen, the Hegau hills and, on a clear day, far into the Lake Constance region. Together with the fortress ruins, visible from afar, the protected landscape forms a unique blend of natural and cultural experiences, making the Hohentwiel one of the region’s most distinctive landscapes.
