Martin Andersen Nexö, a native of Denmark, was the first major representative of working-class literature, which gained in importance at the beginning of the 20th century.
Untersee left only faint traces in his work. The Allensbach climate was unsuitable for writing poetry, he wrote in his memoir novel “Morten der Rote” (1954): It was too conducive to laziness. Nexö's collaboration with the Constance publisher Oskar Wöhrle and a denied entry to Italy kept him at Untersee from 1925 to 1930. A memorial plaque at Brunnengasse 7 commemorates the writer and is one of the locations of the literary cycle path on Untersee (Literaturland Baden-Württemberg) “Per Pedal zur Poesie” (By pedal to poetry)
