Beschreibung
Born in Gera in 1891, Otto Dix became a leading figure of the New Objectivity movement in the 1920s. During the Third Reich, he was one of the first academics in Germany to lose his professorship from Dresden Academy in 1933. He then moved to Randegg with his wife Martha and their three children Nelly, Ursus, and Jan. In 1936, the family moved into their house in Hemmenhofen. Otto Dix lived and worked here until his death in 1969 and increasingly devoted his work to the Lake Constance landscape. In 2005, the House and Garden Dix ensemble was accepted into the Baden-Wuerttemberg State Register of Monuments. To preserve the property going forward, the Foundation Otto-Dix-Haus-Stiftung e.V. under the chairmanship of Frank Hämmerle renovated according to historic preservation laws, transforming the property into a museum. In June 2013, the association handed over the MUSEUM HAUS DIX to the Stuttgart Kunstmuseum, who owns a significant global collection of Dix works.
