Parish church of the Sacred Heart
The parish of Herz-Jesu owes its church to the parish priest August Ruf, who became parish priest of St. Peter and Paul in 1905 during a period of general economic growth.
The foundation stone for the Herz-Jesu parish church was laid in 1911, at a time when the town of Singen was growing as a result of industrialisation. Initially located on the outskirts of the town, the church's imposing architecture now dominates the townscape. The neo-Romanesque pillar basilica was damaged several times, by two earthquakes and a bomb attack in February 1945. Consequently, little remains of the original contrasting colour scheme. In 1978, Emil Wachter and Klaus Ringwald redesigned the interior. Thanks to its excellent acoustics and central location, the church is a popular venue for concerts and other cultural events.
