Radolfzell City Distillery
Radolfzell on Lake Constance is one of the few towns in Germany that still holds a historic distilling license.
Various fruit brandies and a herbal brandy are available at the Radolfzell Tourist Information Office.
The town is permitted to distill 300 liters of pure alcohol annually in its own distillery. In 2013, the town replaced the defective distillery from the 1960s with a new facility. The fine apple and mirabelle plum brandies, known as Radolfzeller Hannok and Radolfzeller Kappedeschle, were joined by the anniversary spirit Radolfzeller Kirsch, named after the Black Forest cake, whose inventor once ran a pastry shop in Radolfzell.
Some of the brandies were awarded prizes by Obstbrände Baden GmbH at the “Baden Best Spirits” competition in May 2022. A bronze medal was awarded for the “Kappedeschle Apple Brandy Mettnau Cuvee,” and a silver medal each for “Kappedeschle Apple Brandy,” “Kappedeschle Apple Brandy Riserva Aged in Oak,” “Cherry Brandy Aged in Cherry Barrels Riserva,” “Grappoldus Amarone Pomace Brandy Riserva,” and the “Plum Brandy.”
