LED light bars, programmed control system
Sparkasse Hegau-Bodensee, Singen main branch, customer lobby
Miriam Prantl’s work in the lobby of the Sparkasse Hegau-Bodensee’s main branch in Singen is not her first lighting project in Singen. Back in 2007, she created a large-scale LED installation – the ‘Lichtband’ – at the Stadthalle. The rhythmically arranged light bars create a striking feature on the façade and welcome arriving visitors with a festive light display.
For the Sparkasse’s new customer hall, the artist – who lives in Vorarlberg – developed the light installation ‘Ray’. Two light bars of different lengths, suspended in parallel, stretch across the high ceiling and extend into the foyer. With their light flowing downwards, they create a dynamic counterpoint to the horizontally structured architecture.
The play of light is visible from various areas of the hall and engages visitors as well as the bank’s staff. Even at night, the installation can still be experienced through the glazed entrance area.
The lighting programme alternates between coloured light and white points of light trickling down like snowflakes. Miriam Prantl views LED light as a dynamic design element that alternates between rhythm and tranquillity. In this way, the installation enters into a close dialogue with the architecture.
As with the ‘Lichtband’ at the Stadthalle, Prantl also uses ‘Ray’ to transform colour into a vibrant, constantly changing form. This site-specific light art thus gives the hall a pulsating centre.
