Singen City Hall

Singen City Hall is far more than just an administrative centre: it is an architectural and cultural landmark in the town centre. The striking building was constructed in the early 1960s to plans by the city architect Hannes Ott and still symbolises Singen’s transformation into a modern city in the Hegau region. The fusion of architecture and art is particularly impressive: the council chamber houses ‘War and Peace’, the only surviving mural by Otto Dix. This monumental work was created in 1960 as part of the new city hall project and powerfully explores themes of destruction, hope and new beginnings.

It is also worth taking a closer look from the outside: at the top of the building, the light installation ‘Located World’ by the internationally renowned conceptual artist Joseph Kosuth makes a modern statement in the public space. It was created as part of the art project ‘Hier, Da und Dort’ for the 2000 State Garden Show and combines language, light and architecture in an unusual way.
