Beschreibung
The Theresia chapel in Singen is the only surviving camp chapel in Germany that was built by German prisoners of war in 1946/47. A camp for Eastern European forced laborers was set up on its site in 1942, which was then used by the French occupying forces for prisoners of war after 1945. Thanks to the commitment of Singen citizens such as Wilhelm Waibel, the chapel was saved from decay.
“The location is unusual for a church consecrated as a Catholic church, and even rarer is the fact that the foundations are an air raid shelter from the Second World War. Nevertheless, the chapel in the industrial area is no coincidence, but reflects not only the industrial history that shaped Singen, but also European ties through the war and post-war period.” - Dr. Carmen Scheide
