UNESCO World Heritage Site pile dwellings, Allensbach-Strandbad
The “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps” have been inscribed on the World Heritage List since 2011.
This means that the Allensbach-Strandbad station is also on the list of the universal heritage of mankind. Discovered in 1858, the lakeside station of the Neolithic Horgen culture is known for its sensational finds. In addition to textiles and wood, these include the well-known, fully preserved dagger and the sandals from Allensbach.
The Allensbach Local History Museum and the Archaeological State Museum in Constance, which has set up a new permanent exhibition, offer an insight into the life of the Neolithic settlers. The original Allensbach finds can be seen there.
