The Weitenried Nature Reserve stretches across the area between Singen, Steißlingen and Volkertshausen and is one of the defining wetland landscapes of the Singen Lowlands. Water-bearing ditches, wet meadows, ponds and field hedgerows characterise the area. The Weitenried is of particular importance to birdlife: it serves as a breeding ground, feeding habitat and moulting site for rare, and in some cases highly endangered, species. Rare wetland flora also finds suitable living conditions here. The wide, open landscape offers beautiful views of the nearby Hegau Hills. The area can be explored on foot or by bike along the paths, allowing visitors to experience nature at first hand. Information boards along the tourist routes provide details about the landscape’s unique features. Beavers have also found a habitat in Weitenried and, through their activities, contribute to the dynamics of the wetland.
