The Domäne Hohentwiel, situated at the foot of the Hohentwiel in Singen, is a farm specialising in sheep farming and direct regional sales. Here, sheep and cattle are reared in a natural environment and high-quality products are sold directly from the farm.
In the farm shop, visitors can find, amongst other things, pear secco and apple juice produced locally, as well as wool and hides from the farm’s own production. Beef of sheep and cattle are available to order. The farm places great emphasis on sustainable agriculture and regional value creation.
Sheep farming plays a special role in the area around the Hohentwiel. The animals graze on the steep slopes and open meadows of the volcanic hill, thereby making an important contribution to landscape conservation. Extensive grazing helps to preserve the typical nutrient-poor grasslands and prevents the areas from becoming overgrown with scrub. In this way, valuable habitats for numerous rare plant and animal species are safeguarded. The area around the Hohentwiel is a biodiverse natural environment featuring steep rock faces, dry grasslands and orchard meadows. Here, orchids, wild bees, wall lizards and various bird species, amongst others, find suitable living conditions. The sheep farm’s traditional grazing practices play a crucial role in preserving this unique cultural landscape.
A special feature of the Domäne is guided tours (on request) up the Hohentwiel to the nature reserve there. During these tours, visitors gain fascinating insights into sheep farming, landscape conservation and the unique natural environment surrounding the striking volcanic mountain. On request, the tours can be combined with a tasting of the estate’s own produce.
The Domäne Hohentwiel thus combines traditional farming, active nature conservation and direct regional marketing, whilst also serving as a fascinating place to discover the natural and cultural landscape of the Hegau region.
