A journey to Celts, volcanoes and moors
The Ried circuit starts at the Allensbach Wildlife and Leisure Park and leads through a fascinating landscape where nature and history meet. Celtic burial mounds on the Heidenbühl bear witness to a long-gone culture, while the Mindelsee nature reserve is a valuable habitat for numerous bird species and rare plants. The impressive view of the striking Hegau volcanoes provides an insight into the geological history of the region. The sounds of the local birdlife can be discovered at the “Listening place - voices of nature” and the importance of intact moors for climate protection becomes visible in Bündtlisried. This varied tour offers a unique nature experience with exciting insights into the past and present of the region - a screenplay of the past against the backdrop of the present.
Autorentipp
After the natural site “Keltengräber-Heidenbühl”, the tour can be shortened in the direction of Stöckenhof.
Wegbeschreibung
The Ried circuit begins at the parking lot of the Allensbach Wildlife and Leisure Park. From here, the trail initially leads between the fallow deer and bison paddocks.
Before the entrance to the wildlife park, the trail turns left onto a meadow path and leads to the Mindelsee inn. After crossing the district road between Markelfingen and Kaltbrunn, you reach the Heidenbühl nature reserve. A gentle hill surrounded by walnut trees tells of the culture of the early settlers.
The trail continues along the edge of the forest and before reaching the Krebsbach stream, turn left across the wet meadows. After a sharp bend to the right, the path runs along the northern shore of Lake Mindel. Here, a NABU "Did you know? station provides information about the special flora and fauna around the ice age lake.
In a bend to the right, the trail continues in the direction of Dürrenhof. With a bit of luck, the small vending machine café will be open. Past the field cross at the Hirtenhof farm, a lounger at the Mindelsee nature reserve invites you to linger.
A forest path leads straight ahead to the district road to Langenrain. After a short climb, you reach the Stöckenhof farm. Another “Did you know? station here tells you about the traces of a Roman ”Villa Rustica". After the farm, the trail continues to the right along a gravel path to the Vulkanblick nature reserve - with a clear view of the striking peaks of the Hegau volcanoes.
The route continues through the forest to a crossroads. A short spur trail branches off here to the “Voices of Nature” listening area, where the forest is transformed into an open-air concert - with a bit of luck, live and polyphonic.
Back on the main path, the route continues south until the path turns sharply to the left
and leads in gentle curves to Markelfinger Straße. After crossing the road, the path runs along the Neuweiher pond to the top of the meadow, then takes a sharp right into the forest towards Bündtlisried. There, a high seat offers a wide view over the small structured biotopes - including wild geese at the right time of year.
In a final curve, the trail circles the north-eastern side of the Ried and finally leads back to the starting point at the wildlife park.
