Wegebeschaffenheit
The Schienerberg forms a natural boundary between the Höri peninsula, which has direct access to Lake Constance, and the rest of the Hegau region. Geologically, it is a block of molasse surrounded by the Untersee and the Aach and Biber valleys. The Schienerberg's rocks are solidified sand, with the occasional deposit of coal seam or freshwater limestone. As the border between Germany and Switzerland winds its way across the mountain, the area was once a popular spot for smugglers.
This scenic hike allows you to experience the region's eventful history. Starting at Worblingen Castle and passing the Catholic parish and pilgrimage church of St Genesius in Schienen, the ruins of Schrotzburg Castle, the Stations of the Cross, and Bohlingen Castle, you will discover fascinating details about the region's various ruling powers.
Wegbeschreibung
We start our hike from the car park at the church in Worblingen (409 m). We cross the road and head straight for Worblingen Castle on the opposite side. From there, we turn right, then left into Hittisheimerstraße. We cross the bridge, then turn left towards the swimming pool. Continue straight on past the swimming pool on the tarmac road towards Schiener Berg. Turn left at the field cross. Turn right at the next junction and follow the gravel path into the forest. Go straight ahead and then turn right up the hill to a barbecue area. Continue straight ahead, then turn left at the next junction. Stay on this gravel path for a while. After a long right-hand bend, continue straight ahead on the path until you reach the edge of the forest. Continue straight ahead into the forest. Leave the forest and continue along the tarmac road. After a long right-hand bend, turn left at the junction onto another tarmac road. At the next junction, continue straight ahead onto a dirt track. After a short while, you will reach the L193. Turn right here to arrive at the monastery church of Schienen (600 m). After visiting the church, return to the L193 and turn left onto the path you took earlier. At the next junction, continue straight ahead on the tarmac road. We will then walk past the Unterschrotzburg and Oberschrotzburg farms. We keep to the right here and walk uphill along a meadow path. After a slight bend in the path, we arrive at a plateau. To the right, a footpath branches off to the Schrotzburg ruins (693 m). The ruins of Schrotzburg rise up on a moraine of ice age gravel. We retrace our steps to the farm, bearing right and turning right at the edge of the forest onto Stationenweg. We leave the forest via Stationenweg. Walk downhill on the tarmac path past the field cross into the village of Bohlingen (412 m).
Turn right onto Hittisheimer Straße. Then we turn left onto Bohlinger Dorfstraße. Walk past the town hall, turn right into Schlossstraße, then right again to reach Bohlingen Castle. We then walk back to Bohlinger Dorfstraße, cross it, and arrive at Burghalde behind the town hall, a local castle dating back to the High Middle Ages. We then walk back to Bohlinger Dorfstraße and continue along it towards Schienerberg, crossing the bridge. At the slight right-hand bend, we turn right towards the sports field and into Ledergasse. Continue above the sports field on the tarmac path. Next, we turn right and then left past the Schützenhaus. Turn left and continue along this path, staying on the Aach river, until you reach the swimming pool. A footbridge there leads right into Riedernstraße, taking us back to our starting point at the church.
