Wegebeschaffenheit
The Klingenbach Gorge is a wild and romantic gorge and an adventure playground for children. The Kattenhorner Bühl is a nature reserve with rare flowers and plants. The State Institute for the Environment and Nature Conservation describes the Kattenhorner Bühl as follows: "Richly structured, south-facing molasse slope on the Schienerberg, of special character and beauty; very diverse biocoenoses of rough pastures, semi-dry grassland, orchards, fringes, fens, hedgerows and deciduous forests, all extensively used; habitat of many endangered, partly thermophilic animal and plant species".
The entire slope (Bühl) is maintained by BUND and a farmer and grazed with goats and Hinterwälder cattle to prevent scrub encroachment. Below the Kattenhorner Bühl is the Protestant church with glass mosaic windows designed by the painter Otto Dix.
On the panoramic trail with its beautiful views, we pass a tree that was planted by the Öhningen-Höri local group to mark the 150th anniversary of the Black Forest Association. Benches invite you to linger and enjoy the view of the lake. The "Fischerhaus" museum is located in Wangen near the Höri beach hall. It displays artefacts from a pile-dwelling settlement that was discovered in 1854 as the first pile-dwelling settlement in Germany. One of the most famous artefacts is a giant salamander, which was mistakenly described as a poor sinner who drowned in the Flood.
The district of Kattenhorn is a former fishing village. Some of the old buildings have been preserved and the buildings are described on information boards on a tour of the village. The chapel of St Blasius, which belongs to the former Kattenhorn castle, is well worth a visit.
Before the public baths in Öhningen, we pass the crossroads to the harbour and landing stage. From there, the boats sail to Reichenau, Constance and Lake Zell. Downhill to Schaffhausen. On the way we have various places to stop for refreshments in Wangen, the landing stage and Öhningen lido are open from mid-May to mid-October.
