Wegebeschaffenheit
Experience a family-friendly bike tour from Singen to Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls in Neuhausen, Europe's largest waterfall. The starting point is the parking lot of the former State Garden Show in Singen. On varied paths – from gravel and forest trails to paved bike paths – the route first leads along the idyllic little river Aach and later directly along the Rhine.
Along the way, shady sections, swimming spots, and places to stop for refreshments invite you to linger. Highlights of the tour include the picturesque ride along the Rhine and the spectacular Rhine Falls. In Schaffhausen, you can take a city tour before heading back to the starting point. Alternatively, you can combine the return trip with a boat ride to Stein am Rhein or a train ride to Singen.
The route combines nature, culture, and water spectacles and is suitable for families as well as ambitious cyclists who want to experience a varied cross-border tour in the Upper Rhine and Hegau regions.
Wegbeschreibung
From the starting point at the Landesgartenschau grounds parking lot, head toward the city center to the Aach river and then south through Schlachthausstraße to the Friedrich Wöhler Gymnasium. There, the route crosses to the other side of the river and follows the Aach to Rielasingen-Worblingen. Turn right at the main road and cross the town toward Ramsen (CH). Cross the border into Switzerland on the cycle path that runs alongside the road. Pass through Moskau, a district of Ramsen, turn right at the gas station, continue through the old village center, cross the small river Biber, and turn left again at the Alte Mühle (old mill) onto the signposted cycle path to Schaffhausen. Please note: Do not follow the signs to Gailingen here! Passing the small hamlet of Wilen, follow the red cycle signs marked No. 14. Through the Staffelwald forest, you will reach Obergailingen and Gailingen. At the covered wooden bridge, cross to the other side of the Rhine. Immediately after the bridge, turn right. Shortly after Unterhof Castle, turn right over a small bridge. Continue to follow No. 14, leaving Diessenhofen and passing St. Katharienental monastery, through the idyllic forest to the former Paradies monastery. There, a small passenger ferry takes you across to the other side of the Rhine. However, the tour continues via Langwiesen and Feuerthalen to Schaffhausen. Turning left before the Rhine bridge, the route leads along the Rhine to the Rhine Falls.
From Schaffhausen, there are various options for returning to the starting point in Singen:
In the summer months, you can take a boat trip from Schaffhausen via Diessenhofen to Stein am Rhein. From there, take the cycle path past Hemishofen to Ramsen, where you will rejoin the route you took on the way there to Singen. Outside the boating season, you can take the train from Feuerthalen to Stein am Rhein. There is also a direct train service from Schaffhausen to Singen.
Please note: In both cases, there is a charge for taking your bike on the train!
