Wegbeschreibung
The cycle tour starts and finishes at the NaturFreundehaus Bodensee in Markelfingen. Follow the cycle path to the Markelfingen campsite. From there, stay to the left of the railway line on the riverside path, which leads to Radolfzell. Cycle along the riverside promenade, passing the railway station and enjoying views of Lake Zell, towards Moos and Stein am Rhein. At the end of Radolfzell, turn right at the roundabout by the riding school towards Überlingen am Ried. Cross the road at the Solar Complex solar park and take the cycle path to Moos through the Aachried nature reserve. In Moos, turn right at Haus Gottfried, then, after 150 metres, take the cycle path on the left towards Bankholzen/Bohlingen. After another kilometre, turn right onto Aachweg (nature reserve). After approximately 1.5 kilometres, continue straight ahead at the farm (do not turn right towards Bohlingen). After one kilometre, you will reach the district road (K6160). Turn right here and, after 50 metres, cross the road and follow the dirt track on the right. You will now be able to see the Schiener Berg with its mixed forests on your left and the Hegau across the Aach on your right. After around 1.3 kilometres on the paved path, turn left and cycle past the Hittisheimer Hof (border) towards Ramsen.
In Ramsen, cross the main road and cycle through the village towards Buch/Thayngen. At the end of Ramsen, cross the Biber River. This is where the two tours diverge.
Alternative 1: After crossing the Biber River, turn left after 30 metres onto Betteltalstraße. Ride straight ahead on a mixture of gravel and asphalt paths alongside the Biber river towards the Rhine. You will reach the Bibermühle mill after approximately 3.5 kilometres. Turn left here. Follow the Rhine to reach Stein am Rhein via Hemishofen. After exploring the picturesque old town, continue along the road towards Radolfzell and Öhningen. At the end of Stein, turn right onto the Rh --. Weg, which is part of the Lake Constance Cycle Route, and cross the border onto the lakeside path to Öhningen. Continue straight ahead on the cycle path, where you will encounter a climb in Kattenhorn. From here, an impressive panorama of Untersee and the Swiss shore opens up along the Lake Constance Cycle Route, which runs from Wangen via Hemmenhofen to Gaienhofen. At the end of Gaienhofen, turn right onto the cycle path towards Radolfzell. In Horn am Seeschlössle, turn left, then right after approx. 400 m towards Se nossle. From the Hornspitze nature reserve, which boasts a unique view of Reichenau, Untersee and Hegau, follow the lakeside path to Moos via Gundholzen and Iznang. Cross the Aach on Mooser Allee, just before its mouth, to reach the entrance to Radolfzell. Follow the familiar paths back to Markelfingen.
Alternative 2: After crossing the Biber, turn right onto the cycle path towards Buch/Thayngen (red markings, route no. 753). From Buch, the path crosses the border into Murbach/Randegg. Before reaching Murbach, turn right at Holzhaus and follow the path back to the Biber. Before reaching the river, turn left onto the cycle path. This cycle path changes sides of the river at this point and leads past Randegg to Bietingen. Continue on cycle path no. 753 across the border to Thayngen (industrial and customs area). Stay on cycle path no. 753 (within sight of the motorway) to reach Schaffhausen, then follow the cycle path into the city centre. At the first roundabout in Herblingen, continue straight ahead on the cycle path towards Schaffhausen Old Town (see Alternative 2a). You will then reach Schaffhausen railway station, from where you can return to Radolfzell Markelfingen by train. Alternatively, you can travel to Schaffhausen by train and start the second part of the route from there. After visiting Schaffhausen's old town, head from the pier onto the cycle path and keep the Rhine in view. Follow the road to Büsingen, a German exclave in Switzerland. At the end of Büsingen, turn right onto Diessenhoferstrasse. To reach Gailingen, you will pass through the Büsingen-Gailingen landscape conservation area, alongside the Rhine and past vineyards. Cross the wooden bridge and continue straight ahead. The path continues through the conservation area to Johannihof. After a short climb, you will reach a mixed beech forest. The cycle tour then continues along a forest path, following the signposted route towards Stein am Rhein and Bibermühle. At Bibermühle, the routes from alternatives 1 and 2 rejoin.
Alternative 2a: Excursion to the Buchberghaus nature lovers' house in Merishausen (approx. 9 km). At the first roundabout in Herblingen, turn right onto the Hochstrasse and follow the road uphill towards Bargen. After approximately 1.8 kilometres, take the cycle path to the right of the motorway towards Merishausen. At the entrance to Merishausen, cross Hauptstrasse and continue along Dostentalstrasse. Continue straight ahead past the car park and follow the steeply ascending paved road to the Buchberghaus (707 m above sea level). The Buchberghaus is surrounded by forests and meadows and is located in a magnificent hiking area on a Randen plateau.
