Allensbach Archeology and History Museum
History from the Neolithic age to present day comes alive in the Allensbach Archeology and History Museum.
Beschreibung
The "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps" made the World Heritage list in 2011. Since then, the museum has been redesigned to showcase the “Allensbach-Strandbad” pile dwellings, the life of Neolithic settlers and the local history from prehistory to the present.
The local history museum is located in the old school next to St. Nicholas Church. The World Heritage Site “Allensbach-Beach Pile Dwellings” features many original artifacts and replicas including the Allensbach dagger dating from around 2900 BC. (Upper Italian flint and preserved wooden handle) as well as two different Allensbacher sandals with images and text panels. The interactive media station allows visitors to find pictures and descriptions of all Baden-Württemberg Pile Dwelling sites listed by UNESCO World Heritage.
The exhibition also includes Neolithic artifacts from neighboring Allensbach settlements and Western Lake Constance, along with Iron Age and Alemannic antiquities.
“Rocks from Home” is a mineral collection featured alongside artifacts from prehistory to the Middle Stone Age. Another room houses rare documents, seals, building plans and weaponry — even small household items and kitchen appliances. The collection ends with sculptures from Kappler chapel, the works of deceased Allensbach painters, and a slide show with vintage photos.
