Museum Fischerhaus Wangen
World Heritage in Wangen’s Fischerhaus Museum.
Beschreibung
The Fischerhaus Museum is one of the oldest buildings in town and presents Neolithic finds from the Wangen bay pile-dwelling site. The Wangen Neolithic settlement is among the oldest on Lake Constance (4000-6000 years old). German research into the pile dwellings began exactly here in 1856 by Kaspar Löhle, a local Wangen citizen.
The fisherman's house features an extensive collection of ceramic vessels, stone and bone tools, flax and linen textiles including the famous "Wangen Hat.”
At the Paris 2011 meeting, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee accepted 111 pile-dwelling settlements around the Alps to the World Heritage list, including the Wangen-Hinterhorn site.
