The Wooden Bridge

The first clear history about a bridge over the Rhine between Gailingen and Diessenhofen goes back to a privilege granted to Duke Albrecht of Austria in the late 13th c. The bridge tariff and shipping tariff were both important sources of city income.

At the end of the 18th c., Russian troops retreating from the French destroyed the bridge. Today's wooden bridge was built at the beginning of the 19th c. and can be crossed by car and on foot. The bridge is a beautiful backdrop of the Swiss bank.
